Age-restricted products

We sell knives, bladed items and certain corrosive cleaning products only to people aged 18 or over, and we check age twice: before dispatch and again on delivery. These products are marked 18+ on our website.

Why we check

It is a criminal offence in the UK to sell a knife or bladed article to anyone under 18, and selling certain corrosive products to under-18s is also an offence. Online sellers must take all reasonable steps to confirm a buyer's age. We follow the two-step check set out in the Crime and Policing Act 2026.

Step 1: before dispatch

  • When your basket contains an 18+ item, you will be asked to verify your age before checkout.
  • You give your name, date of birth and personal home address. Business details cannot be age verified: give the details of the person who will receive the parcel.
  • Before we dispatch, we check photo ID (a passport or UK photocard driving licence) together with a current photo of you. We will contact you by email or phone to complete this.
  • We will not dispatch age-restricted items until the check is complete. If you are under 18, or the check cannot be completed, we cancel those items and refund them in full.

Step 2: on delivery

  • Age-restricted items are delivered only to the person who verified their age, who must show photo ID to the courier.
  • They cannot be left with a neighbour, in a safe place, in a parcel locker or at a collection point.
  • Parcels are marked as containing bladed articles for delivery to people aged 18 or over only.
  • If photo ID cannot be shown, the parcel returns to the depot and a redelivery fee may apply.

Tips

  • ID checks can take a little longer than normal dispatch. To avoid delaying the rest of your order, you may prefer to order 18+ items separately.
  • Make sure the name and address you give match your photo ID.

Large or repeated orders

We may ask for more information, delay or decline orders for large quantities of knives or repeated orders over a short period, and we may report them to the police where the law requires. Trade customers can help avoid delays by giving their company name and VAT number in the basket.

Your information

We use your age-check details only to verify your age and keep a record that the check was carried out. Photo ID images are deleted within 30 days of the check. See our Privacy & Cookie Policy for details.
